Must-See P.E.
Websites!!!!
Professional development doesn’t
just have to be at the beginning of the year, or during staff meetings, or
before or after school. Especially when most Professional Development seems to
be geared towards the classroom teacher.
In
today’s world of the internet Professional Development can happen 24 hours a
day, seven days, 365 days a year whenever you need it. The key word here WHENEVER
YOU NEED IT! Let’s say you’re lesson planning and you need a new % levels of
fitness instant activity, or a new movement activity to fit a certain movement
skill your teaching, or maybe you’re looking a new assessment tool like
Plickers to help formatively assess your students. All you have to do is use
the internet! But why spend countless hours looking for good quality resources
when I’ve done it for you. I have been a Physical Education Specialist for 17
years, and during this time I have seen some good, some bad, and some awesome
PE websites.

Plickers for paperless assessments!!
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if all of our students had their
own electronic device? If these devices aren’t available in your school then
Plickers is definitely for you! What are Plickers? Plickers stands for “paper
clickers.” They are 40 pre-made cards that let teachers collect real-time
formative assessment data without the need for student devices. Students are
given or assigned a card to hold up to answer questions given by the teacher to
check for understanding. All the teacher has to do is scan the room with any
IOS or Android device. Results are given instantly as to which students
understand and which do not. The results
can be shown for each individual student or you can have it show the overall
percentage for the class. The pre-made

Finding
professional development for the Physical Education professional can be
difficult. When I first started teaching Physical Education over 16 years ago,
all I had was books, district colleagues, and local workshops. Today the
internet has made it easier than ever before to improve your teaching. However,
YOU have to want to improve your craft!

like never before. We can now find fellow P.E. professionals not just in our

2015 Jump Rope for Heart
Fairview Families,
JRFH Update:
I would first like to say THANK YOU for your generosity! This year's Jump Rope for Heart event was one of our best years yet! As of right now, we have collected over $10,800 for the American Heart Association. During my 16 years as the Physical Education Specialist at Fairview, it never seems to amaze me how much Fairview families give when asked!! Since I became JRFH co-coordinator/coordinator 16 years ago, Fairview has raised over $100,000. We have been able to help and educate thousands of people about the importance of living a heart healthy lifestyle. This is not possible without your help and generosity!!!
Now onto the ducks and prizes. I have sent in the order form and money for the incentives to JRFH and it is now being processed. The incentives should be arriving soon. When they do arrive, I will then need time to sort them all out. I know we all want to get these prizes out so the children/students may enjoy them. Talk to you soon. Movement Matters!

Week #13
k4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP for the week was a muscle movement song called Give Me Ten. We then reviewed our catching cues (Look, Reach, Bring In). We practiced our cues with an activity called Hula Hoop Exchange. We finished class taking our movement skill into game play with a game named Concentration Catch.
3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP for the week was a CV activity called Toilet Tag. We then reviewed our push-up and curl-up form as we start getting ready for our fitness challenges. We reviewed the overhand throwing cues from last week (T, L, Step and Throw) and ended class playing Pin Busters.
6th thru 8th grade's ASAP for today was a CV game named Clothes Pin Tag. Our WALT for the day was about Calories!! We discussed why we need them, how many are in a pound of fat, and how we manage them. We went over this concept with a game called Calorie Busters.
3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP for the week was a CV activity called Toilet Tag. We then reviewed our push-up and curl-up form as we start getting ready for our fitness challenges. We reviewed the overhand throwing cues from last week (T, L, Step and Throw) and ended class playing Pin Busters.
6th thru 8th grade's ASAP for today was a CV game named Clothes Pin Tag. Our WALT for the day was about Calories!! We discussed why we need them, how many are in a pound of fat, and how we manage them. We went over this concept with a game called Calorie Busters.
Week #12

Our WALT for the week was our catching skills. We went over catching cues (Look, Reach, Bring In). We then had time to practice catching our own throws off the walls of the gymnasium. We ended class playing a catching game called Bombs Away!!
3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP for the week was a CV activity called Clothes Pin Tag. Our WALT for the week was Overhand Throwing again. We reviewed the cues (T, L, Step and Throw) and practiced catching with an activity called Toss and Catch Tag. We ended class playing an overhand throwing activity called Angry Birds.
6th thru 8th grade's ASAP for the week was called Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. We then played a movement game called True or False to review for our Bowling Quiz. We finished class taking the Bowling Assessment.

3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP for the week was named Same and Different, great Muscular strength and Endurance activity. Our WALT for the week was Overhand Throwing with a focus on accuracy. We went over the cues (T, L, Step and Throw) and played the game called Smash the Turkey.
6th thru 8th grade's ASAP for the week was called Same and Different. It is a great MS/ME and CV activity that gets kids moving!! We then went over how to score for bowling and practiced for the remainder of the class!

We ended class playing the classic throwing game named Clean Up Your Backyard!
3rd thru 8th grade's ASAP was a MS/ME activity called Sumo. We then reviewed the rolling cues for bowling (step and swing ring-a-ling) and learned the basic 4 step approach to bowling. We finished class by continuing to play Bowling Bingo from last week.

K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP for the week was called Beep Beep Times Up!! Here the students reviewed the concepts of self space, pathways, and tempo. Our WALT was Overhand Throwing!! We went over the cues of T, L, Step, And Throw and practiced our form using Hula Hoops that were placed all over the gymnasium at multiple levels! We finished class playing an overhand throwing activity called Angry Birds!!
3rd thru 8th grade's ASAP for the week was a Muscular Strength and Endurance activity called Finger Tag. We then reviewed our bowling rotation and learned the proper grip and the basic rolling technique. We used the cues step and swing ring-a-ling! We then finished class practicing those cues with an activity called Bingo Bowling.
