Week #8

K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP was Go Touch. We then reviewed our loco-motor skills with an activity called Beep, Beep, Times Up. We practiced the skill of rolling. We then put this skill into practice with a game called Don't Be Couch Potatoes!!

3rd thru 8th grade's ASAP for the day was a muscular strength and endurance game called Dagger. We then reviewed our rolling for bowling cues with Roll and Catch Tag. We went over the bowling set-up and played a quick bowling activity called Ten pin!!

Week #7

K4 thru 8th grade this week had the opportunity to participate in the Annual Fairview Halloween Obstacle Course!!! The students were able to develop their coordination, balance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and improve their body composition. The younger students also get a chance to go over, under, on top of, and through obstacles while also twisting and bending to improve their movement development.

Week #6

K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP for the week was a movement song called Animal Action. This song was used to review the movement pathways we learned last week. We then started to learn about our loco-motor movements. We used the loco-motor cubes to practice these skills. We then finished class playing Fire Fighter. This activity was used to reinforce the loco-motor skills learned for the day, but also because it was Fire Safety week.


3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP was a CV activity called Partner Duck, Duck, Goose. We then went over the skill of underhand rolling in preparation for our upcoming bowling activities. To practice our step and swing, ring-a-ling, we played a game called Roll and Catch Tag. We then ended class putting what we learned into practice with a game called Pin Protector!

6th thru 8th grade's ASAP for the week was called Meet and Greet. We the played an activity called Knockdown to learn the basics of rolling for bowling. We finished class playing Pin Protector to reinforce the cues.

Week #5


K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP this week was a movement song called The Freeze. We then went over the definition of pathway and used a movement cube to practice them. We finished class playing a Fairview classic called Monster where we put our pathways into practice.
3rd thru 5th grade's ASAP was a cardiovascular endurance activity called Torpedo. We then discussed Sportsmanship. We played an activity called Fire Fighter (Fire Safety Week) where we kept score and had a winner and loser. This lead to more great discussion on Sportsmanship.

6th thru 8th grade started class with an activity called Cooperative Warm-up Cards! Since this was our last day in our Cooperative Unit, we finished with an activity called Cross the Great River. The students had to use all the skills taught in our previous lessons.

WEEK # 4

K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP was called Body Parts. We then discussed the meaning of cooperation and teamwork. Then they had an opportunity to play activities where they could put cooperation and teamwork into action. We played Scat Cat and Mosquito Tag.  With these games students were required to help each other get back into the activity. At the end of class, we discussed how if felt to be helped or not helped.

3rd thru 8th grade's ASAP were 4 corners (3rd thru 5th) and Perimeter Fitness (6th thru 8th). We continued our Respect and Sportsmanship focus with Problem Solving activities. The students had the opportunity to play the game called Maze! The students had to work together to solve the maze puzzles! The previous two lessons had to be incorporated in order to help solve the problems. We finished class discussing times we would have problems to solve in the real world.

WEEK #3

K4 thru 2nd grade's ASAP was called Body Parts. Our fitness time was spent going over the 3 jobs of our muscles and we did a movement story called Ladders. We then got the bean bags out and went over some body awareness activities. We ended class playing a game called Hot Foot where we reviewed self space and body awareness concepts.

3rd thru 8th grade's ASAP was Cooperative Workout Cards (3rd thru 5th) and It's In The Cards (6th thru 8th). We continued to work on Respect and Sportsmanship and discussed why communication was important for good teamwork.  3rd thru 5th grade played an activity called Connecting Eyes and 6th thru 8th played an activity called Car and Driver. Verbal and Non-verbal communication was required for both activities. We finished by processing where outside of the gym verbal and nonverbal communication would be needed.

WEEK #2

K4 thru 2nd grade started learning about Self Space! Our ASAP was called I see... You see... We then discussed what Self Space is and demonstrated it  through a song called Ain't to Proud to Beg. We used deck rings to practice getting equipment safely. We also did some simple manipulation of the deck rings. We ended class playing a game called Got Cha. With this game, we practiced playing an activity while move around and staying in our Self Space.


3rd thru 8th grade started the year discussing Respect and Sportsmanship. Our ASAP was called Bumper Cars (with some Hula Hoop manipulation). We then specifically discussed Inclusion. What it is, Why it's important, and how it affects people. We put this into practice with an activity called Musical Hoops. We ended class discussing where they see the effects of good and bad inclusion.

WEEK #1

For the first week of school, K4 thru 8th grade went over the classroom expectations and routines. Of course, my students didn't sit the whole time. We learned through movement. The upper grades played an ice breaker activity called True or False and/or Walk or Talk. We got to know each other while discussing the reasons why exercise is important to good health. We also practiced the basics of classroom routines through the game Everyone's It Tag. The lower grades practiced the basic stop and go procedures, where we enter and leave the gymnasium, and the PBIS expectations of the gymnasium while playing basic movement activities.

WEEK #11


K4 thru 2nd grade ASAP/Fitness activity for the day was named Number Scramble and/or Candy Grab. We then used Hula Hoops to improve our balance and coordination. We had the opportunity to hula hoop, as well as, as manipulate the hula hoops in many different ways. They even had creative hoop time. We then ended class playing an activity called Bumber Cars.
3rd thru 8th ASAP for the week was called Torpedo. A great kicking activity with Hula Hoops. This week was the final week of Fitness Testing. This week the students participated in a 5 levels of fitness station course where all five levels were present. The 6th station was used for the students to get their height and weight checked in. All my students did a wonderful job preforming all their fitness tests. I'm glad we're done!!!

WEEK #10


K4 thru 2nd grade ASAP for the week was called Step Right Up. We then used Plastic Grocery Bags to practice our catching skills. We manipulated the plastic bags in many different ways so that the students could get as many catching opportunities has possible during the class time. We ended class making rocket ships and playing Plastic Bag Flag Tag. The students really enjoyed this lesson.

3rd thru 8th grade this week is finishing up their fitness testing. Our ASAP for the week we used a cage ball and did a 5 levels of Fitness activity called Train Tracks!! We then used the cage ball to play a activity called Battleball. Here the students la down on their backs and kick the cage ball back and fourth with goalies to see who can score the most points. We then finished class preforming our sit & reach flexibility test. The whole purpose of our two activities for the day were to warm-up our legs for the Flex test. Mission accomplished.

WEEK #9


K4 thru 2nd grade this week participated in the song called the Jumping Jack Song for their ASAP (Activity Soon As Possible). We then went over the gross motor skill of underhand rolling and had a little practice time with our own bowling pins. We then finished class putting our new learned skill into action with a game called Try to catch a Snowman.

3rd thru 8th grade this week continued their Fitness Testing. This week we started class with a ASAP called Confusion. We then preformed the Muscular Strength and Endurance tests. We started with the Push-ups and ended class doing the Curl-ups. To end class we discussed all the possible ways we could improve out muscle strength and endurance.

WEEK #8

K4 thru 2nd grade this week started class with a ASAP called Fire and Ice Tag. Here we reviewed our different pathways and speeds. We then went over the gross motor skill of overhand throwing. To end class we played a classic activity called Clean Up Your Backyard. Where we put what we learned into action.
 3rd thru 8th grade this week began their Fitnessgram Fitness Testing. This week the students preformed the Pacer Test (Cardiovascular Endurance evaluation). The what and why we were dong it was discussed before we participated in this evaluation activity. All the students did a wonderful job!!! To end class we discussed all the ways in which we could improve our heart health.
